❓Why should you try it?

Truth is that it is on our recipe rotation every Tuesday night. I also make sure to make some extra portions to be eaten the next day for lunch! The nice thing is that my two toddlers love it as well. I just always make sure to chop all the vegetables into really small pieces and leave everything to cook for more than half an hour making sure that the kidney beans would melt in their little mouths.

During our Mexican nights, I use this recipe and serve as a Quorn chilli bean bowl or Quorn chilli tacos. Kids love it served with tortilla chips, grated cheese, and a blob of thick creamy yogurt for extra protein. On other nights we prefer to serve it on a base of baked sweet potato and guacamole on top. And what I most love about it is as both these alternatives are completely gluten-free meals!

  • Quick and easy to make
  • Healthy and low in fat
  • Ideal for weight loss, muscle building, and for maintaining your weight
  • Meat-free, Gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free
  • Mild enough for the whole family to enjoy
  • Freezer-friendly

๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ How to make Quorn Chilli con Carne

๐Ÿ”ช Preparing Chilli con Carne Vegetables

Do you want a chunky vegetable chilli? Or a smoother one? I love to use it as a dip with nachos and is an excellent trick of hiding vegetables for kids and fussy eaters.

To prepare the veggies, slice or dice the red pepper, chop the onion, mince the garlic and rinse, drain and optionally mince the kidney beans.

๐Ÿฒ Cooking the Quorn Chilli Sauce

  1. Fry the onions, red pepper, and garlic in olive oil for 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the Quorn mince and kidney beans together with all the spices and tomato puree on low heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the water, stirring thoroughly. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, pouring  a generous amount of chili mixture on the sweet potato, rice, wrap or taco. Sprinkle with chopped spring onions, if desired.
  5. Optionally top each portion with 2 tbsp guacamole, sour cream, yogurt and/or shredded cheese.

๐ŸดServing Suggestions

As a side, you can prepare wholemeal wraps, tacos, nachos, rice, and baked sweet potatoes! If you're baking the sweet potatoes bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 40 minutes. Alternatively, you can microwave 900KW for 8 minutes. Then cut in half each baked potato and slice each top lengthways.

As a condiment, you can use homemade guacamole. For a very fast guacamole recipe, peel and mash the avocado and add some lime.  Or you can use a blob of sour cream, greek yogurt, or grated cheese on top.

๐Ÿ” Top Tips

  • Always keep a packet of frozen Quorn mince in the freezer so you're never too far away from delicious meals like this.
  • There is no need to defrost the Quorn mince beforehand. Use it straight from the freezer.
  • I like to mix all the spices in a small glass so that when I am cooking I do not have to meddle up with the various spice bottles.
  • Gain some time? I admit to using garlic powder occasionally when running out of time.
  • It is very important to let the onion soften well without burning it or letting it stick to the pan because it will give the chilli an unwanted smoky taste.

๐Ÿค” Variations

  • More spicy. Use double the amount of cayenne pepper.
  • Extra protein. Add another tin of kidney beans or greek yogurt for extra protein.
  • Packed with veggies. Add more vegetables such as baby corn, an extra pepper, or tomatoes.
  • Meat recipe. Swap the Quorn mince for beef mince for a richer more meaty chilli con carne.
  • Vegan. Omit the mince or use mashed Quorn burger .

๐Ÿง FAQs

Quorn is a brand that uses a meat substitute called mycoprotein. This is a naturally sourced meat-free protein derived from a natural fungus that is high in fiber, soy-free, and non-GMO.

Quorn mince is lower in fat than beef mince so is a great choice if you are following a low-fat diet. However, lentils that are frequently used in vegan chillis and stews have less fat while also containing more iron.

Quorn mince has a great meat-like texture that is perfect for cooking each of your favorite minced meat recipes. It tastes delicious on its own but it's terrific adding some spices to it.

The vegetarian chilli can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Yes, there is no need to defrost the Quorn mince first.

Quorn mince is vegetarian but not vegan. The brand has other products which are vegan like burgers. If you mash these burgers into mince they can be used as a Quorn mince alternative.

Quorn is a perfect gluten-free alternative which unlike lentils has a similar texture to meat.

Vegan Quorn Chilli Con Carne

๐Ÿ› Quorn Chilli Recipe

The Quorn Chilli recipe is a healthier vegan version of chilli con carne. Personally, I think this recipe using Quorn is even better than the original one using beef. The Quorn together with the kidney beans, red pepper, onion, and the spices blend perfectly well making this a perfect fulfilling meal for all the family.
